Annie Lowrey’s recent article in the Atlantic quoted David Autor and featured the “New Frontiers: The Origins and Content of New Work, 1940-2018” working paper. The paper is authored by David Autor, Caroline Chin, Anna Salomons, and Bryan Seegmiller. Professor Autor noted the potential for AI to reduce employment in the “middle tier of white-collar jobs,” and pointed to the findings of “New Frontiers” that the majority of workers have in occupations which did not exist 80 years ago.
